Athens Area Health Plan Select was awarded two Best of Category Awards in the 2011 Print Excellence Competition conducted by the Printing and Imaging Association of Georgia on May 13, 2011 at the Georgia Aquarium Ballroom in Atlanta.
The winning entries, 2011 Calendar and 2010 Holiday Greeting Card, were judged on uniqueness in design, typography, creativity, overall appearance, difficulty of printing, ink coverage, registration, ink selection, paper selection, and finishing.
The entries were printed and submitted by Southeastern Color of Athens, Georgia. PIAG's Print Excellence Competition is one of the largest state printing competitions in the nation, and this year had 614 entries and over 400 industry professionals in attendance.
Feeling so far from what you know, so far from what’s comfortable, missing all of the comforts of home, being exposed in a ruthless environment… these are only some of the reasons why the Reward & Recognition team for Athens Regional Health Systems organizes a Salute the Troops drive every year. This drive exists to provide our committed soldiers and Marines with care packages that contain just a few comforts of home to lift their morale in a harsh, relentless environment. To smell a bar of Irish Spring soap, to eat some familiar candy or to be able to actually floss one’s teeth might not mean much to you, however to one of our soldiers abroad it brings a small amount of comfort and fond memories of home or brings back a feeling of civility.
We are so proud of our soldiers and Marines and strive to continue to let them know they have not been forgotten and we here at home are so very proud of them and so thankful for what they do. We mustn’t let them go unnoticed or unrecognized, and in partnership with Pinnacle Bank, through our relationship with Anne and Paul Harris, we had the most successful drive yet providing a total of 37 care packages to the soldiers and Marines of our family here at Athens Regional.
Angie Rousey, Claims Audit Specialist with Health Plan Select, participated in this year’s event for “In Their Shoes”. This 13.1 mile one-day walk benefits all programs and services for cancer patients at the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at Athens Regional Medical Center. The walk also raises awareness and recognition for women who have lived with breast cancer.
In the midst of mental, physical, emotional and behavioral mountains, the powerful connection between horses and people has been proven to heal.
That’s why it is an honor for us at Health Plan Select to have the pleasure of sponsoring two horses, Elph and Spirit, used in a therapeutic riding program through Reins of Life.
Elph and Spirit have a brilliant way of rehabilitating emotional, physical and mental wholeness by offering a sense of freedom and independence.
The impact of these horses in children’s lives is a work that can’t be obtained in a clinical environment. Hippotherapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy are two of several programs at Reins of Life.

Once again, Health Plan Select sponsored a golf team and a golf hole to raise funds for the Athens Pregnancy Center. The weather was beautiful and the participants had a fantastic time and raised funds for a worthy cause.
